Photographic project

Of all the Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries in Europe, Lijssenthoek has the largest number of known war graves, namely a total of 10753. A headstone gives us important information ranging from the name of the victim to the date of death, rank and regiment. Many graves also record the age of the deceased or carry an inscription. Regimental emblems and religious symbols make up the iconography of the headstone.

The photographic inventory will provide us with a lot of information. We will link the photograph of the war grave with the name of the victim, which will give an added value to our persons' database. This will also enable families to obtain a copy of the photograph of the grave. It will be a free service which we gladly offer to those who are able to give us information on their relative buried at Lijssenthoek.
