One of his brothers, George, was a driver in the Royal Horse Artillery; he was one of the drivers who took into action the gun which fired the first British shell in the war (on 22 August 1914).
George was killed in action on 11 September 1917 and is buried in Sailly-Labourse Communal Cemetery Extension near Bethune.
