  • Served with the Upper Canada College cadets while a student before the war. In June 3 1915 he joined No. 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital in England and went with it to Lemnos, which was a hospital base for the Gallipoli Expedition. When the Hospital was transferred to France he served in it for awhile, but at the end of 1916 began training for a commission in the R.F.A. He reached the front again in June 1917, being appointed to 'D' Battery, 315th Brigade. He had been recommended for the Military Cross.
